Shirodhara is an ancient and profound treatment that works specifically on balancing and stabilizing the activity of the mind. Shirodhara facilitates the release of serotonin and decreases adrenaline which in turn helps to release mental tensions.

Shirodhara is suitable for any dosha or constitution however there are some contraindications.

Shirodhara can be done for a period of 30 minutes to 45 minutes depending on the nature and severity of the dosha imbalance or depending on the constitution (Prakruti) of the patient.
Shirodhara is usually done for a period of 7 to 14 days or as recommended by the practitioner. The relief or complaints is taken as a parameter for the number of days of treatment to be done in one stretch.

When scheduling an appointment for Shirodhara, keep in mind that you may need additional rest following the treatment. Shirodhara cleanses the mind and senses. Make use of this time and avoid unnecessary stimulation after your treatment. Avoid large crowds (concerts, restaurants/bars, large gatherings) and make the remainder of your day peaceful. This is your time for mental rest.
Eat lightly before your appointment. Shirodhara has an effect on the digestive system and a full stomach is not advised. Your hair will be saturated with oil. Dress appropriately and comfortably. Wear an old shirt, something you don't mind getting oil on. It is advised to leave the oil in your hair for at least a few hours following the treatment. It's best to leave the oil in your hair overnight.
Prepare to cover your head following the treatment. If the weather is cool, windy or cold, bring an old warm hat, again something you don't mind getting oil on. An old scarf or a plastic shower cap also works well.
Herbal Steam Cocoon (Swedana)
'Sweda' in Sanskrit means 'Sweat'. When used at the end of a treatment including oil application, the hot herbal steam opens the pours for the medicated oil to go to the deeper layers of your tissues for a more effective detoxification. The herbs used clear the body's channels of toxins, relax the muscles, and are pleasing to the senses. Swedana is also beneficial for stiffness, edema, and respiratory ailments.
After a gentle, full body application of warm herbal oil, a steam tent is placed over you, cocooning you right on the massage table while herbal steam comes through . Swedana is the perfect addition and ending to any of your treatments.

An Ayurvedic Facial begins with a soothing and exfoliating massage with dry, raw silk Garshana gloves. This nurtures the delicate skin tissues, and activates its natural cleansing and rejuvenating processes. Raw silk has a protein Sericin, which has positive effects when used on eczema or psoriasis, as well as scar tissue regeneration and wrinkle reduction. It is first in the facial sequence because it removes dead skin cells, exfoliates, and draws in the facial products deeper.
Following Garshana, we lightly apply warm oil to massage the face, neck, and shoulders, and incorporate special energetic points (Marma Points) to clear the channels that move through the face. Next, we cleanse and steam the face, opening the pores in preparation for the mask.
